BUSINESS LINK AND PERSONNEL PLUS EQUALS SUCCESS

Brentwood business Personnel Plus is proving it is head and shoulders above its larger national competitors in the recruitment market, thanks to the help it has received from Business Link for Essex. As well as helping them to achieve the Investors in People Award in just nine months, Business Link for Essex has given Manager Eileen Marshall the skills and confidence to plan further expansion for the company's bright-looking future.

"Working with Business Link, we have been able to stand back and take a broader look at the company.

Achieving Investors in People has not just been an end in itself, but it has given us the right tools to help us run the business. I can now see the stages I need to work through and can measure the progress. I also have a structured plan for the future", says Eileen Marshall, Manager at Personnel Plus.

Eileen and Assistant Manager Ann Marta established the business in 1987, but after a move to larger premises, they decided last year that they needed some help in developing the business. A local accountant put them in touch with Business Link for Essex. As well as receiving ongoing business advice, the company has also produced a new company brochure and soon-to-be launched Website to help raise its profile locally and nationally.

Personnel Plus prides itself on the fact that its client base is the same as the larger multi national agencies but it offers a very personal service without the high operating costs that the larger agency incurs. What makes it different is also the amount of time it spends assessing and testing job applicants, providing a first class screening service to identify the best candidates for clients.
"The result of all the hard work is that we have now established our name in the recruitment market, have built a lot of client trust and are getting good recommendations from our clients. We have enjoyed working with Business Link for Essex and we will definitely have ongoing contact with our adviser", says Ann Marta, Assistant Manager.

Whilst working towards Investors in People Eileen and Ann received advice and guidance from Beverley Mead, Workforce Development Adviser from Business Link for Essex. She helped them to introduce staff training; contracts of employment; staff appraisals and promoting from within the company. The business now employs seven staff.

Eileen Marshall and Ann Marta are planning to continue their relationship with Business Link for Essex by developing their managerial skills through workshops and business networking this year.
